Not included in the 1974 Nobel prize for the discovery, Bell received a £3m prize for her work in 2018. She's used it to set up a foundation to improve the diversity in STEM.

#OnThisDay, 28 Nov 1720, Mary Read and Anne Bonny are found guilty of piracy and sentenced to be hanged.
Both executions were paused, as both women claimed to be pregnant. Read died in prison, Bonny was released.

#OnThisDay, 25 Nov 1960, sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal were assassinated for their political opposition to the Dominican dictator Trujillo.
In 1999, the UN designated 25 Nov as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in the sisters' memory. The day now marks the start of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

She was crowned Elizabeth I the following year and remained Empress of Russia till her death in 1762. She had a policy of not executing people.
