The relief is palpable. Students sometimes/often don't want this - or at least they should be given the choice, and mandatory to be asked for consent if AI is being utilised in their L, T & A process.

I have been approach by an editor of #JOSS (https://fediscience.org/@joss@fosstodon.org) who told me about #JOSE (https://jose.theoj.org/ - for which I could not find a Mastodon handle).

The idea is to provide a low-hurdle academic reward for open access educational material -- with a particular computational emphasis.

Thing is, that you hardly get an academic “paper” if you develop teaching material. So, this might be appealing for some folk here.

How much #teaching is done to provide the appearance of success while causing few people trouble?

I'm getting feedback that students appreciate that I always show up on time with a lesson plan.

Are they damning me with faint praise, or are their other classes going completely off the rails?

Every time I read a new treatment of “formative and summative assessment,” I become more convinced these are difficult to use and ineffective. #education #teaching

Well. We tried the barrel crush demo today, but no such luck. It was an older barrel and I think there was a leak somewhere that I couldn't find. Such is life.

We'll do small scale tomorrow and then maybe try again in a couple weeks right before spring break.

I spent a while last night writing up a new lab procedure for my advanced chem class before going to bed.

After sleeping on it, I don't think I took the right approach with the procedure. I need to go back and rethink how to have them do some chemistry to reinforce existing skills within the new context. I think last night's approach was too new and didn't have them put current knowledge into practice enough.
