After a year or so I have finally found the hardware and software situation I have been pursuing for my film scanning.
While lots of people use DSLR scanning, I don’t really like the way that works. I prefer a powerful desktop film scanner, unfortunately the great ones were made in the 90s and use software from that era.
Someone gave me a Mac Mini with FireWire (!!) and plenty of storage, that I can just screenshare over the network. NikonScan works so much better than the third party scanning software I used till today, and has significantly cut down the time it used to take me to scan a roll of film.
I’ll write up something longer about my film dev and scan workflow.
