March edition of the year of Gorse (a photo of gorse in flower every month) taken at sunset today in Fife as the orange light hit the gorse bush and changed the apparent flower colour. The close up picture focussed on the flowers changed the colours to closer to the expected yellow colour.

Pincushion plant (Diapensia obovata) – a hardy alpine wildflower found in the high elevations of Alaska’s mountains. These small, white flowers bloom low to the ground, often growing in dense, cushion-like mats to withstand the harsh alpine conditions.

From recent walks and allotmenting I’ve been slowly learning more about local wildflowers. I fell in love with ‘Fox and Cubs’ flowers and I’m currently fascinated by dandelion-looking plants that have no relation to one another.

A few I’ve spotted recently: Smooth Hawksbeard, Rough Hawksbit, Mouse-ear Hawkweed, and Yellow Goat’s Beard.

Mayflower / cuckoo flower still out on the common land and the first poppies appearing at the #allotment plot
